New rudder for Franchini 43L

Some jobs aren’t quite as they first appear. This new rudder belongs to a Franchini 43L that originally came to Fox’s for a topside re-spray.

After hauling the vessel and removing the existing rudder for work on the skeg, it became apparent that a replacement was needed. This required new mould tooling so an all new GRP rudder blade could be created, whilst ensuring a perfect fit with the existing skeg and bearing arrangements.

The original stainless steel stock was sound so was carefully integrated in the new rudder shell, prior to being bonded in place using Sicomin Epoxy Foam supplied by Matrix Composite Materials. In conjunction with the new rudder work, Fox's are giving the vessel's topsides a fresh coat of paint along with new rigging and a full commission.
