Extensive Refit for Ocean Youth Trust North training vessel

If you are local to, or have visited Fox’s you will have probably spotted this distinctive yellow ketch has returned to the boatyard for additional work. James Cook is operated by Ocean Youth Trust North as a sail training vessel and as a regular customer of Fox’s, has undergone extensive work over the last five years.

The boat always has a busy schedule, however, the Trust were unable to operate or carry out sail training during the Pandemic, which gave Fox’s the opportunity to complete a significant list of refit and repair work. This included high pressure aqua-blasting and complete refinishing of the deck structure, all new stainless deck fittings, new standing rigging on both masts and a re-model of the interior arrangement to accommodate eight new carbon-fibre framed pipe cots designed to make cleaning procedures easier.

Following this work James Cook was re-launched in June to continue service with youth training courses. She is briefly back at Fox’s between trips for further work to deck and cockpit combings, interior finishing and various other engineering work.

Robin Baker, Staff Skipper for the Ocean Youth Trust said “I should like to extend a personal thank you to you for your support during the refit. Most importantly, I valued your advice and that of your team. Every day was a school day but I now feel that I know James Cook better than previously.”

Ocean Youth Trust North is a marvellous charity specialising in the development of young people and adults through offshore sailing. For further info visit www.oytnorth.org.uk
